Advertising Standard authority banned TV advertisement of William Hill
June 2nd, 2008May 28, Wednesday, 2008- A new TV campaign by William Hill Bingo is in the news for wrong reasons. The Advertising Standards Authority has received a number of complaints about the TV advertisements which showed that a wife is altering the kitchen clock to get her husband out of the kitchen so that she can play Bingo. As per ASA’s report, three of the viewers have the objection against the Ad and said that it is harmful and can affect the society as it portrays that someone is so much addicted to gambling that they are deceiving the family.
When William was told this he informed that, ASA that it was not the motive of the advertised to raise or encourage a socially irresponsible behavior that can actually lead to social, financial or emotional loss. Now they have been told not to use the advertisement in the current way or form but still it is available in the You Tube video.
It is a chance of luck that they had several other advertisements that are not complained about to ASA.
